Thing 15 2.0 rant

Some of my friends in other library systems have done web 2.0 for a while now and I was wo ndering when we would get a turn! I agree with the Micheal stephens points where he talks about building a new librarianship. Patrons come to us for guidance on these new technologies and we need to be current in order to serve them. Its embaressing to have someone come in and ask you how to make a blog or use the scanner when you aren't sure yourself. It casues us to lose credibilty in the public's eyes. we do have to come to terms with the fact that the library needs to extend beyond the physical walls of the building to serve peole wherever they are. Infomration has exceeded what a physical library can contain in both space and expense so it is in our bet interest to go online and check out new ways to store info and share info. I think it is also necessary to use these things in our own daily life so we are familiar with the tools and also a big fan of them so we can lead the way in showing others how to make their lives easier.
